Dr. Aimee Thomas of Lighthouse Family Center did the psychological evaluation the court ordered in my custody case, Summit County Domestic Relations Court, DR-2022-03-0667. On June 17, 2023 she wrote that the evidence I had sent her had "expired." On June 21, 2023 she sent her report to the court, and that night she wrote that anything I sent that day "will not be included." She submitted her report without opening my evidence of his drug and alcohol use and the domestic violence. Her report is incomplete and void.
What happened
The court ordered psychological evaluations of both parents on August 9, 2022. Her office set six appointments with me between November 3, 2022 and May 11, 2023. She saw my sons with me on February 18, 2023. I shared a Dropbox folder of my evidence with her on February 9, 2023 and emailed her my files on drugs and alcohol and on domestic violence on March 23, 2023. She did not answer until June 17, 2023, when she wrote that the attachments "have expired." I resent my evidence that day and over the next four days. She sent her report to the court on June 21, 2023 and told me that what I sent that day "will not be included." When I asked her to correct her errors, she refused, and in 2025 her lawyer told me not to come to her offices. She was never questioned under oath about her report. On August 10, 2025 I filed a complaint about her with the State Board of Psychology of Ohio, and the Board acknowledged it on August 11, 2025.
At a glance. From January 2023 to September 2025 I sent Dr. Thomas, her office and her lawyer at least 96 emails. She wrote me 25, plus two out-of-office replies; her office sent me a receipt and her lawyer sent one letter. Her office also texted me six appointment reminders, which I confirmed; I found no other texts with her. Before her report went to the court I sent her 25 emails carrying evidence; she thanked me for four of them, and wrote that the March files "have expired" 86 days after I sent them. Of 26 requests I list below, 11 got no answer I can find. Two letters from my counselor got no reply from her. After December 7, 2023 she went 115 days without writing to me, and after July 28, 2024 she never wrote to me again; 376 days and 22 of my emails later, her lawyer told me not to come to her offices.
1. August 9, 2022: the court-ordered evaluation
On June 14, 2022 my lawyer filed a motion for a mental health evaluation and drug testing assessment (motion, 6/14/22, as named in his 6/29/22 response). The court ordered the evaluations on August 9, 2022; the docket lists an "ORDER" filed that day (docket, 8/9/22). My ex-husband's own pretrial statement confirms it: "Pursuant to the Court's Order of August 9, 2022, the parties were to be evaluated by Dr. Aimee Thomas." (Plaintiff's pretrial statement, 10/17/22, p. 4) Her report is addressed to Judge John Hoffman and dated June 23, 2023 (report, p. 1).
2. November 2022 to May 2023: my sessions
Her office texted me a reminder before each appointment, and I confirmed each one (Lighthouse text reminders):
- November 3, 2022, 11:00 AM, Summit County office
- December 15, 2022, 11:00 AM, Summit County office
- January 5, 2023, 3:00 PM, Summit County office
- January 18, 2023, 6:00 PM, Stark County office.
- February 9, 2023, 9:00 AM, Summit County office
- May 11, 2023, 6:00 PM, Summit County office
While her evaluation was still going on, the court gave me more time with my sons. On November 14, 2022 Judge John R. Hoffman Jr., "not having the psychologicals completed," ordered that I "shall have unsupervised visitation with the children every week on Wednesday." (judgment entry, temporary orders, 11/14/22, p. 1)
3. My evidence, and what she did with it
- February 9, 2023, 9:30 AM. The morning of my session, I shared a Dropbox folder of my recordings and documents with her (Dropbox share email, 2/9/23). She never acknowledged it.
- March 14, 2023, 11:21 AM. I emailed her pictures. At 11:40 AM she answered: "Thank you for these picture" (her email, 3/14/23). She received them.
- March 23, 2023. I emailed her three sets of files: "2019 domestic" (5:46 PM), "Ongoing domestics" (6:00 PM) and "Drugs, alcohol, addictions" (8:23 PM), covering my ex-husband's drug and alcohol use, the 2019 domestic violence and the ongoing domestic violence (my emails, 3/23/23).
- May 12, 2023, 4:48 PM. The day after my last session, I emailed her about my ex-husband's 2019 counseling with Ms. Young (my email, 5/12/23). That same afternoon I texted Ms. Young: "Could you email the mental health specialist dr Aimee Thomas any records of my kids you have if she's still never called you?" (my text, 5/12/23 4:38 PM)
- June 2, 2023. My lawyer wrote me that Dr. Thomas "advised that her goal is to complete the report by June 20, 2023." (Attorney Valenti email, 6/2/23)
- June 17, 2023, 10:53 AM. Almost three months after my March 23 emails, she answered: "You send me numerous documents as attachments, but they have expired. Can you please resend documents that you want mw to review." (her email, 6/17/23)
- June 17, 2023, 12:04 PM. "Can you provide me Mr. Suttler's deposition? We discussed this at out first meeting." (her email, 6/17/23) Our first meeting was November 3, 2022. She waited more than seven months to ask for it, and sent her report to the court four days later.
- June 17 to June 21, 2023. I resent my evidence: about 115 images in nine emails, from June 17 at 3:00 PM to June 21 at 12:38 PM, plus a note at 12:01 PM on June 21 that I would send Mr. Stutler's deposition by the end of the day (my emails, 6/17–6/21/23). She replied to none of them.
- June 21, 2023, 1:00 PM. "The reports were sent over to the court earlier today." (her email, 6/21/23)
- June 21, 2023, 9:25 and 9:26 PM. I resent Ongoing Domestics.pdf and 2019 domestic violence.pdf, the same files she had said expired. At 10:01 PM she answered: "The reports were sent to the Court earlier today. Any data your provided me today will not be included in the report." (her email, 6/21/23)
She submitted her report without opening my evidence of his drug and alcohol use and the domestic violence. Her report is incomplete.
Nine months after the report, on March 27, 2024, I sent her the Dropbox folder again. On March 31, 2024 at 1:41 PM she answered: "I cannot open this document. Please be advised that that my report is complete and has been sent." (her email, 3/31/24)
4. What she got wrong in her emails
| What she wrote | What the records show |
|---|---|
| "Do not worry about Scott's deposition. He only supervised two visits and you now have unsupervised time." (her email, 6/21/23, 1:00 PM) | Under oath on October 14, 2022, Mr. Stutler was asked, "Were there 14 visits?" He answered, "Yes." (Stutler dep. 29:21–22) She had asked me for his deposition on June 17, 2023, then sent her report without it. |
5. What he told her, and what the records show
I read his evaluation at Family Court Services. I could not take a copy, so the left column below is my own notes from reading it, not quotes from it. I have listed only what he told her that the records prove false.
| What he told her (my notes from reading his evaluation at Family Court Services) | What the record shows |
|---|---|
| He was a stay-at-home parent. | His own records do not agree with each other. His affidavit says: "During my marriage, I was a stay-at-home father while Defendant was the primary income-earner for our family." (his affidavit, 5/13/22, p. 5, ¶3) His W-2s show he earned wages from Regency Roofing in 2017, 2018 and 2019 (tax records, 2017–2019). For 2020 and 2021, my Younger Son was enrolled at Young Explorers Montessori in Twinsburg, three days a week. He attended from February 24, 2020 until COVID closed classrooms in late March 2020, and again from October 5, 2020 to May 26, 2021. I toured the school on February 12, 2020 and enrolled him, I signed the tuition payment form on November 2, 2020, and my mother and I split the tuition. Between February 10, 2020 and August 31, 2021 the school sent 273 emails, including 73 daily reports; all of them came to me, and none went to him (Young Explorers emails, 2/10/20–8/31/21; see the Young Explorers page). |
| He did not kick in my bedroom door. | The police report of February 15, 2022: "the door frame was split indicating it had been forced open. This was photographed." (police report 22-00040, 2/15/22, p. 4) Under oath he said, "I just put my shoulder into it," and of the frame, "Yeah. There's a little crack." (hearing transcript, 5/20/22, 235:12–24) |
| He is not a heavy drinker. | His own text of February 16, 2021, 10:47 PM: "I'm one of the most fun, heavily drinking motherfuckers around." (his text, 2/16/21) |
| He is sober and does not use drugs. | Her report on me records that he "acknowledged using cocaine in 2021 as well as a history of opiate abuse and use of kratom" (report, p. 3) and that he acknowledged he was "addicted to opiates" (report, p. 6). She wrote that the documentation "did support that [my ex-husband] was abusing illicit drugs, an allegation that he did not dispute." (report, p. 15) |
That is the double standard. Her report on me records his drug admissions, yet the decree put conditions on me alone.
The guardian ad litem told me he was waiting for her report so he could write his.
When I read his evaluation at Family Court Services, Dr. Thomas wrote that he is prone to dishonesty.
6. The diagnosis, and what it was built on
Dr. Thomas gave me a personality-disorder diagnosis. It was based on false information my ex-husband gave her, and she found no abuse without looking at my evidence.
What he told her does not match the records. I set that out in section 5, What he told her, and what the records show: being a stay-at-home parent, the bedroom door, his drinking, and his drug use.
Before her report went to the court, I sent her 25 emails carrying evidence. She thanked me for four. She never acknowledged the Dropbox folder of recordings and documents I shared with her on February 9, 2023. She answered my March 23, 2023 files on the domestic violence and on his drug and alcohol use 86 days later, to say: "You send me numerous documents as attachments, but they have expired." (her email, 6/17/23) When I resent them, she wrote: "The reports were sent to the Court earlier today. Any data your provided me today will not be included in the report." (her email, 6/21/23)
After that, she would not look at anything new:
- "I am not able to rewrite/redo your evaluation based on these issue." (her email, 12/7/23)
- "I cannot open this document. Please be advised that that my report is complete and has been sent." (her email, 3/31/24)
- "I am not able to consider new data without a Court order or request from both your attorney and [my ex-husband]'s attorney." (her email, 7/28/24)
No one ever questioned her under oath about it (section 8).
I have no history of drug or alcohol abuse, and I had no mental illness before this litigation. My PTSD and panic attacks came from the abuse and from losing my sons.
7. I asked her to fix it. She refused.
- July 21, 2023, 3:39 PM. I wrote to her that "there are quite a few errors in the document you filed to the court," and: "if you needed additional documentation on facts I have them all including dates and times. Is there a reason you did not email me to ask for them?" (my email, 7/21/23)
- July 24, 2023, 8:00 AM. She answered: "Please feel free to write a letter that corrects any errors that you have found in the documents. I will certainly take it into consideration." (her email, 7/24/23) I wrote back, "Will do. Thank you."
- December 6, 2023, 10:49 AM. I sent her "Corrections - part 1," a numbered list of the errors in her report (my email, 12/6/23). It showed that she called things "alleged" even though I had "verifiable factual evidence including his own testimony in court, motions, police reports, text messages and letters"; that she never looked at the Dropbox of recordings and documents I sent her; that she mixed up separate police reports; and that my trip to Florida was made with the court's permission and on my lawyer's advice.
- December 7, 2023, 11:55 AM. She answered: "I have reviewed your email. I understand your concerns. I am not able to rewrite/redo your evaluation based on these issue." (her email, 12/7/23)
- March 27, 2024, 7:30 AM and 12:58 PM. I sent her my "Corrections" and then "Please look at this documentation," each with a link to my Dropbox folder (my emails, 3/27/24).
- March 31, 2024, 1:41 PM. "I cannot open this document. Please be advised that that my report is complete and has been sent." (her email, 3/31/24)
- June 10, 2025, 12:22 PM. I asked her one more time: "please correct your mistakes for the sake of my sons." (my email, 6/10/25)
- August 8, 2025, 10:32 AM. Instead, I got a letter from Michael A. Chuparkoff of Weyls Peters + Chuparkoff: "I am an attorney who represents Lighthouse Family Center, Ltd. and Dr. Aimee Thomas." He wrote that "an appointment will not be scheduled for you and I respectfully ask that you do not come to any Lighthouse Family Center, Ltd. office locations." (attorney email, 8/8/25)
No corrected report or addendum was ever issued. She would not fix her own errors, and when I kept asking, she had a lawyer tell me to stay away.
8. Never tested in court
I could not even get a copy of my ex-husband's report. On August 31, 2023 I asked the court for it. At 8:45 AM the court answered: "We cannot release any psychological reports. The court expects parties or attorneys to get those directly from the provider." (court email, 8/31/23) When I asked her, she answered at 9:25 AM: "I will need an order from the court to release it to you." At 11:28 AM she wrote: "I cannot give it to you without a Court order." (her emails, 8/31/23)
She was subpoenaed for my hearing on July 11, 2024. On July 28, 2024 she wrote to me: "I was advised that I was released from the subpoena and not needed at the hearing because you and [my ex-husband] had reached an agreement." (her email, 7/28/24)
In the fall of 2024 I subpoenaed her again. My ex-husband's lawyers moved to quash, and on November 13, 2024 Judge Joseph Giulitto granted the motion to quash my subpoenas "served upon Common Ground, Lori Long, Aimee Thomas, Geoffrey Setiawan, Mary Malek and Stephanie Young." (order, 11/13/24) No one ever questioned her under oath about her report.
9. My complaint to the licensing board
On August 10, 2025 I sent the State Board of Psychology of Ohio a formal complaint about her. The Board's investigator acknowledged it on August 11, 2025 (Board email, 8/11/25).
10. Who she is
Her own website says she has a Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology from The University of Akron and a Juris Doctorate from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, and that her attorney license "is currently inactive and she does not practice law." It says she co-founded Lighthouse Family Center in November 2018 and estimates she has conducted "more than 3,000 evaluations" (lighthousefamilycenter.com, viewed 10/18/26).
11. How her report is still being used to keep my sons from me
My divorce decree of July 17, 2024 gave me supervised time only. It says my parenting time "may be modified in the future only after the passage of six (6) months of continued engagement with mental health professionals as recommended by Dr. Aimee Thomas." (decree, 7/17/24, Exhibit A, pp. 22–23)
On the day she sent her report to the court she wrote to me that "you now have unsupervised time." (her email, 6/21/23)
His attorney, Lisa Dean, keeps pointing the court back to it:
- January 8, 2025. She wrote that the issues I raised "were addressed by not only a court-appointed Guardian ad Litem, but also in psychological evaluations conducted by Dr. Aimee Thomas pursuant to court order." (his response in opposition, 1/8/25, p. 4)
- February 10, 2026. Opposing my emergency motion to modify visitation: "These conditions were not selected arbitrarily. They were based upon the recommendations of the Court-appointed Guardian ad Litem, as well as the psychological evaluations of the parties." (his response in opposition, 2/10/26, p. 2)
Her incomplete report is still the reason given.
12. Every email and text, counted
I went through every email between me and Dr. Thomas, her office and her lawyer in my Gmail, in order, and the texts on my phone. Times are Eastern. I do not quote or use her report here.
- My emails: at least 96, from January 24, 2023 to September 6, 2025, including 15 with others copied.
- Her emails to me: 25, plus two out-of-office replies. Ten came before she sent her report to the court, and four of those were about scheduling. The last was July 28, 2024.
- Her office and her lawyer: one receipt from her intake office (June 16, 2023), one letter from her lawyer (August 8, 2025) and his out-of-office reply (December 28, 2025).
- Texts: her office texted me six appointment reminders and six confirmations, November 2, 2022 to May 10, 2023. I found no other texts between us.
- Evidence before her report: 25 emails carrying photos, recordings, files, school records and links, from January 24 to June 21, 2023. She thanked me for four (March 14, April 10, April 13 and May 12, 2023). She answered the March 23 files only 86 days later, to say they had expired. She answered none of the nine emails of images I resent after she asked for them.
- Evidence after her report: my corrections (12/6/23), my Dropbox folder (3/27/24, twice, and 7/17/24), two letters from my counselor (4/9/24 and 8/8/25), a video and documents (11/24/23) and other links. Her answers were "I am not able to rewrite/redo your evaluation," "I cannot open this document," and "I am not able to consider new data without a Court order."
- Silences: 36 days from May 12 to June 17, 2023, the weeks before her report was due; 115 days from December 7, 2023 to March 31, 2024; and after July 28, 2024, none at all. Her lawyer's letter came 376 days later, after 22 more emails from me.
- The people I pointed her to: on May 12, 2023 I told her about my ex-husband's 2019 counseling with Ms. Young, and that afternoon I texted Ms. Young asking her to send records "if she's still never called you." In May 2024 she would not speak with my divorce coach unless my ex-husband also signed a release and the court ordered it.
What I asked, and what she answered
Rows in red got no answer I can find. When she did answer, it was often within hours, and the answer was usually no.
