On June 9, 2025, the Summit County Prosecutor's Office sent me next door to the Akron Police Department to file a criminal complaint for perjury in my custody case. The police took my report and my paperwork. The report they wrote describes something else, and it is marked "Complete."
What happened
I went to the station "to file a formal criminal complaint for perjury under Ohio Revised Code 2921.11" (my recording). The written report says I came "to file a report reference the outcome from Domestic Relations court." It is coded "Miscellaneous Incident," with status "Complete," and was reviewed the same day. I was told a detective would be assigned. A week later I was told an investigator had been. I have found no contact from either. I filed a complaint with the department, the Citizens' Police Oversight Board and the Police Auditor, and copied the mayor. I have found no written reply from any of them.
At a glance: a perjury complaint written up as a report about "the outcome from Domestic Relations court" · status "Complete" the day it was filed · a detective "assigned" who never called · no written reply to my complaint · nine emails to the mayor, no written reply.
This page uses the Akron police report (case 2025-00065536), my emails with the department and the mayor's office, and my own recordings of June 9 and June 16, 2025. Only short quotes of what staff said are used. The audio is not published. I am not a lawyer; where I name a statute, whether it was broken is for a court or the proper authority to decide.
The strongest issues
| Date | What happened | The record |
|---|---|---|
| June 9, 2025 | What I reported, and what they wrote. I told the officer at the window that I was there to file a criminal complaint for perjury, a felony, and that the prosecutor's office had sent me. The report describes it as a report "reference the outcome from Domestic Relations court." Its only offense line is "Miscellaneous Incident." The report lists no offense of perjury. | My recording, 6/9/25: "I'm here to file a formal criminal complaint for perjury under Ohio Revised Code 2921.11." "I just came from the prosecutor's office. They referred me here." Report 2025-00065536 (reporting officer #1260 Brown, reviewed 6/9/25): "came to the police station to file a report reference the outcome from Domestic Relations court… George is claiming perjury and falsification… That paperwork was tagged into evidence." |
| June 9 – 16, 2025 | A detective "assigned" who never called. When I asked whether someone would go through the evidence with me, I was told it would go to a detective. A week later, when I went back to ask who had it, I was told an investigator had been assigned. I have found no call, email or letter from a detective or investigator. The report's status is "Complete." | My recording, 6/9/25: "It won't be through us. It'll be through a detective, whoever's assigned to it, which will take a couple days." My recording, 6/16/25: "Okay, so an investigator was assigned." Report 2025-00065536, status "Complete." |
| June 16, 2025 | My complaint got no written answer. I sent a formal complaint to the department's complaints address, the Citizens' Police Oversight Board and the Police Auditor, and copied the mayor. I asked for a written acknowledgment, the names of the officers I spoke with, and the name of the investigator. I have found no reply from any of them in my email. | Emails of 6/16/25 to apdcomplaints@, CPOB@ and policeauditor@akronohio.gov, and to the mayor's office. |
Other issues
- What I was told about perjury. In my complaint I wrote that, during a follow-up visit, an officer told me "perjury is not a crime — we do not prosecute for perjury." That is my account. I don't have a recording of that exchange. Perjury in an official proceeding is a third-degree felony in Ohio (R.C. 2921.11). The same day, at the courthouse, staff helped me file it as a miscellaneous case that goes to the prosecutor.
- The evidence I gave them. On January 14, 2026 I asked for a copy of the report and of the evidence I had handed in. The records room sent the report within half an hour. On the evidence, it wrote that items "if available will be sent back to you by email (minimum 120 days but could be longer)." Nine months later, I have found no email with the evidence. I told them the same day: "This was not a report about the outcome of the divorce - it was a report made to report laws broken."
The Akron mayor's office
From June 16 to September 12, 2025, I sent nine emails to the mayor's office (mayor@akronohio.gov). They included my complaint about the Akron police, a June 16 request to elevate my complaints to state officials, and on June 17 a list of reform proposals: a family justice oversight committee, police training on coercive control, and an end to "the culture of dismissing custody-related reports as 'civil matters' when harm is involved." In July I asked for a meeting. I have found no written reply from the mayor's office to any of the nine.
In fairness
- The officer took my report the day I came in, and my paperwork "was tagged into evidence."
- When I asked for the report in January 2026, the records room sent it within half an hour.
- This was a walk-in report about perjury in a court case. Whether a police department or the prosecutor should handle that first is a fair question. Both offices sent me to the other ("The police say you need to go to the prosecutor. The prosecutor says you need to go to the police," my recording, 6/16/25).
- The mayor's office may have answered me some way other than email.
The rules I'm pointing to
| Rule | What it says | Where it applies |
|---|---|---|
| R.C. 2921.11 | Perjury: "No person, in any official proceeding, shall knowingly make a false statement under oath or affirmation…" It is a felony of the third degree. | What I reported on 6/9/25 |
| R.C. 2935.09 | A private citizen with knowledge of the facts may file an affidavit charging an offense with a reviewing official, to start a prosecution. | The affidavit route I used on 6/16/25 |
What I'm asking for
